Last week Congress decided that pizza is a vegetable. So in “Exhibit C” where Jay Electronica says “When I was sleepin on the train/ sleepin on Meserole Ave out in the rain/ without even a single slice of pizza to my name/ too proud to beg for change, mastering the pain” had that happened on Wednesday instead Jay Electronica could have just grown his pizza on a tree instead. PepsiCo Inc is looking to cut salt, sugar and saturated fats levels in its top-selling products.
According to reuters.com: “It also would reduce the average saturated fat per serving by 15% by 2020, and cut the average added sugar per serving in key global beverage brands by 25% by 2020.”
I like how their goals are so far into in the future, but they do have one goal set to take place next year: Last week Pepsi said it would stop peddling sugary soft drinks to primary and secondary schools on a globally by 2012. Continue reading
Food Network TV star Rachael Ray wants to feed your kids. Because of a partnership between the celebrity “chef” and New York City’s Department of Education up to 600,000 New York City school children will be eating healthier foods from Rachael Ray’s recipes as their school lunch.
New York City’s school program is said to be one of the nation’s healthiest, which sounds kind of crazy to me. I can’t remember a single vegetable except maybe if you want to include french fries and ketchup.
As it turns out there are other aspects of NYC school lunch that are in need of a healthier change. While at Public School 89 with a group of 6th graders and her new menu a cockroach dropped in as reported by the New York Daily News.
