VIDEO: Tom Morello On Occupy Wall Street

tom morello occupy wall street

So this video was posted in October but I stumbled across it recently so I decided to share it with you. This video is all about frames. Notice how Tom Morello is thrown questions in frames like “Which one is you favorite occupy movement?” and “Which occupy movement do you think has the most potential to make change?” You have to watch out for those frames. They’re meant to control the conversation and many times will include false choices. Ever so deftly Morello dismantles the frames, adds new ones and answers the barrage of questions quickly and intelligently leaving little room to be misquoted. Also, check out his stance on the job President Obama is doing, which hasn’t turned into some crushing disappointment, as Morello keeps the realistic stance he had about the president the whole time. Well done.

Well, I think in the Occupy movements this is probably what I’ve been waiting to see all this time. This video is what prompted me to write What I Wanted To See At Occupy Wall Street And What I Actually Saw because at Occupy Oakland I finally felt I got to see what I wanted and needed to see at these Occupy movements given the state of things. I can tell you what I saw at Out of the Park, what I wanted to see at Occupy Wall Street and I can also tell I finally saw what I wanted to see at Occupy Wall Street at Occupy Oakland. Finally seeing what I wanted to see is what prompted me to write this. More on that later. First up was what I wanted to see at Occupy Wall Street which you can read here. Continue reading

VIDEO: @CanarsieBK Speaks At Occupy LA

I was so proud to see that fellow blogger and urban organic gardener extraordinaire CanarsieBK, Mike Lieberman, speaking at Occupy L.A. earlier this month. His topic was growing your own food, the similarities between the food and financial industries and how we can be the change we want to see.

VIDEO: Occupy Wall Street Forcibly Evicted From Zuccotti Park In Midnight Raid

Day_23_Occupy_Wall_Street_October_8_2011_Shankbone

Last night after 1am the park’s owner, Brookfield Office Properties, and the city had the police hand out notices to the occupiers of Zuccotti Park, renamed Liberty Park by the occupiers. They cited supposed unsanitary and hazardous conditions in the park. They were then forcibly evicted by the baton-wielding police dressed in riot gear in the middle of the night with that little notice in a way no landlord would get away with. You can watch some of the video from it below. Continue reading

When I heard the councilman was arrested I knew I remembered that name from somewhere. He was the councilman that supported the Eco-Fashion In The Park fashion show I attended Continue reading

Jay-Z Attempts To Profit Off Of Occupy Wall Street And Sparks Revulsion…At Least In Me

“‘Occupy All Streets’ is our way of reminding people that there is change to be made everywhere, not just on Wall Street. At this time we have not made an official commitment to monetarily support the movement.” – A Rocawear spokesperson as told to Business Insider

If you’ve read the About page here you’ve seen that I do not care for Jiggahov and the Mrs. and in the past I have also been critical of Kanye West. So when I found out Jay-Z’s clothing company Rocawear was selling “Occupy All Streets” shirts with zero proceeds going to Occupy Wall Street or any of the Occupy movements I wasn’t surprised but I was still disgusted. Maybe more like revolted. Jay-Z has made a living off of rhyming about selling crack, destroying his community and being better than you. After releasing an album with Kanye West called Watch The Throne he has attempted to appropriate and capitalize on the Occupy movement which has as one of its main features a democratic assembly. Perhaps the correct thing to do would have been Continue reading
