People are being distracted by this other stuff that’s put in front of them. There strategic censorship of good music taking place…” ~ Homeboy Sandman on NYC Hip Hop, Underground Railroad, WBAI
First time I heard this dude I found him really refreshing and he’s doing it again with his new album The Good Sun. Homeboy is getting press in the LA Times [1] and hiphopdx.com [2] lately not to mention his visit to the “heroic” WBAI on the “heroic” Underground Railroad with Jay Smooth on Sunday night. So much props to him. (more…)
I’m a fan. Janelle Monae can do all. She’s beautiful, she sings, she dances. She sings well and with a polish you don’t hear anymore. She’s so Judy garland to me. Would it kill some of these singers to enunciate?
Oh what a change of pace Janelle Monae is from the usual minimally talented R&B strumpets in various states of undress. I’ve had more than one conversation along the lines of “Damn, why can’t she get a break?”
She’s down with Diddy now and that concerns me greatly. In fact Jay Electronica hanging out with Diddy also greatly concerns me. Wherever they are I hope Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and maybe Homeboy Sandman stay far far away from Sean Papa Diddy Pop Combs.
Can I be in a country that supports good American art without moving to Europe? Ditch the leak and buy the album. (more…)

I’m not even going to entertain ridiculous arguments anymore about De La Soul not being really influential and premium quality Hip Hop. I am also not entertaining ridiculous arguments about who’s from the suburbs and who grew up in an apartment and how growing up in a house means you make terrible rap that makes white people feel comfortable with you. Yeah, you know who you are.
From the sounds of it Señor Kaos, Homeboy Sandman and Von Pea (of Tanya Morgan fame) aren’t hearing it either.
This song is produced by Supa Dave West and is off Señor Kaos’s latest mixtape Walk Softly & Carry A Big Brick which you can download for free here Walk Softly & Carry A Big Brick Or you can download the single here or here
Can you believe it’s been 20 years? You should listen for yourself but I think Homeboy Sand rips it.
QUOTE: “i was asked to be on a song honoring the most consistent hip hop group ever? without a doubt i had to be there. to really push the homage thing i just did a posdnuos impression for 16 bars. i hope you like it, and i hope de la liked it.” ~vonpea.com
Señor Kaos feat. Von Pea and Homeboy Sandman – “20 Years High & Rising (Homage To De La Soul)”
I watched Homeboy Sandman change a tire and I’ve never felt more alive.
Lefty loosey, righty tighty. Homeboy Sandman changes a tire is my moment of Zen for today. I love when rappers do ordinary things that other people do!
I like when he says he evaded the cops at the end.
