One day at work my female coworkers and I were asked to find images in a stack of magazines for a presentation. I came across a perfume ad that stopped me in my tracks. I saw it before but on this day I just had to discuss it with others.

It was a full page closeup of a very handsome blondish man with a 5 o’clock shadow and piercing blue eyes. His head was tilted to the side and he looked directly at the viewer as if to say, “You are the most interesting and beautiful, best smelling woman I’ve ever heard say anything, ever. I am listening. I hear you.” We named him Troy.

A male coworker overheard us discussing it and said, “That’s the look every man has to master. He’s really not paying attention but he knows he has to look like he is. Works like a charm.” (more…)

Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center in Kansas City Missouri has launched a campaign to get local uninsured or underinsured African-American young adults who don’t see a doctor regularly to see a doctor. Their “Urban Health Relief Plan” is aimed at getting young Black people in for check ups, follow ups and establishing a place to go to for routine health care.

Teens and 20-somethings aren’t known for caring about their health though many of us have health issues. Even if you’re young and in good health you don’t have to be Drake (pictured above) to take a hilarious yet nasty fall. The campaign utilizes Twitter, Facebook and text messaging to get the young, broke and fabulous involved and enrolled. Because they were able to get a grant from the state of Missouri not only will this program pay for transportation for those living in a 8 mile radius and there are no co-payments. (more…)

Transparency is an important issue for an organization that asks for your money. If you missed the first part of the interview you can check it out HERE.

In this part of my interview with Myrtho Cavé, the president of We Care-Haiti sponsored by ACMEF and the wife of Alan Cavé, the lead singer of the Haitian band ZIN (one of the most popular Haitian Konpa music bands) we discussed where its own donation money goes. (more…)

In the pic above Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, accompanies President Barack Obama as they arrive at Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport in Cleveland, Monday, March 15, 2010, en route to Strongsville, Ohio, where the president was to speak about health care reform.

My guess is it was on that while on Air Force One with the president Kucinich got a nice firm hand on the shoulder and an offer he couldn’t refuse. Can you imagine the president menacingly wielding an aluminum baseball bat?

In this video Rep. Dennis Kucinich and perpetual presidential candidate Ralph Nader discuss health care, politics and the war in Iraq.

Haiti your brothers and sisters all over the world are watching and we helping.” ~Alan Cave

After the devastating earthquake hit Haiti in January many of us were moved by the stories of dramatic rescues from crushed buildings weeks later and the sorrowful plights of a nation’s orphans. A worldwide outpouring of charitable donations to support the relief efforts followed.

It’s been several weeks since then and many Haitian people are still in need. I recently spoke with Myrtho Cavé, the president of We Care-Haiti sponsored by ACMEF and the wife of Alan Cavé, the lead singer of the Haitian band ZIN, one of the most popular Haitian Konpa music bands. We discussed their foundation’s role in the sustained effort to help the still recovering nation. (more…)

Sure it’s an absurd title and sex as part of health car is an even more more absurd proposition to a Dutch nurses union.

Nurses union NU’91 has launched a campaign to make it clear they feel sexual services should not be included as part of their job responsibilities following an incident involving a 24-year-old woman and a 42-year-old disabled man. (more…)

Getty Images PORTSMOUTH, NH – AUGUST 11: U.S. President Barack Obama speaks at a town hall meeting August 11, 2009 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. President Obama spoke about the need for health insurance reform to a crowd of eighteen hundred.

President Barack Obama continues to push for health care reform amidst backlash from conservatives and protesters. At a town hall meeting in New Hampshire on Tuesday August 11, 2009 he opened his speech by saying Americans are too often ‘held hostage’ by insurance companies that deny or drop their coverage or charge fees they cannot afford.”

“‘I believe it is wrong; it is bankrupting families and businesses and that is why we’re going to pass health insurance reform in 2009,’ Obama said.” ~Reuters.com

Somehow, magically, the story in the media here has become the back and forth between town hall meeting attendants and protesters for and against the President’s initiatives…but mostly against. Everyday citizens are getting ample coverage these days based on their outrage against health care reform, their irrational, non fact based fears of socialism, yelling at Arlen Spector and the fact that they carry guns to town hall meetings.

Nas- “Got Yourself A Gun”

It seems the potential for violence in the near future is increasing. “Death To Obama” signs are not cool. Bringing guns to heated town hall meetings is not cool, but it is a sign of the times. Some of these people got themselves guns and it is alarming.

“Obama’s push for healthcare reform, which seeks to provide coverage to nearly 46 million uninsured Americans, rein in rising medical costs and regulate insurers…” When polled most Americans favor the basic tenets of this position though that seems to get lost in the sauce now. (more…)

seth-rogan-green

Seth Rogen recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote his new movie Funny People. He ended up making an appearance that has gone viral. On the show he recounted his first appearance on Kimmel’s show in 2007 when Megan Fox was also a guest and a talk show newbie at the time.

Rogen relived the painful memory of when he tried to offer a friendly kiss to Fox as she stepped onstage and blatantly rejected him.

More importantly JImmy Kimmel asked Rogen about Canada’s health care system which the right wing has been maligning as socialized medicine that kills people. Sometimes in this country I think we forget we can ask people from those countries questions about their health care and see how they’re doing as opposed to letting people who talk loud think for us. I was surprised Kimmel asked in the first place, certainly he’s not known for his cutting edge journalism but the 2 had a nice exchange and Rogan sort of endorses Canada’s health care…sort of.
