Here’s a pledge for you to sign about boycotting the brands that blocked your right to know about what’s in your food. You can fill out this form via the Organic Consumers Association or download their boycott guides to keep track of the offending organic and “natural” brands, whose parent companies donated millions to defeat Prop 37, the California Right to Know GMO labeling initiative.
“You can call their customer hotlines listed below, and post on their Facebook pages. Tell them you’ll support their brands when they publicly and financially support your Right to Know!”
When was the last time you bought a product claiming to be made with blueberries that actually had blueberries on the ingredient list? Did you read the ingredient list? Well, it’s time for you to start doing that because you may have already participated in ‘The Blueberry Deception’, created by crafty marketers and food companies to get you to eat a cheaper, less perishable product at the price of a product that has real fruit in it. Did you not notice the taste? The texture? Are you really surprised by this? Maybe you did. Maybe you noticed this in Nutella and Tropicana orange juice too. Did you also know these fakeberries are made from chemicals and petroleum byproducts? Yuck! Watch this video and learn more about ‘The Blueberry Deception’.
Where this video fails for me, and where many others do too including Food, Inc., is leaving the consumer to a market solution as their only recourse. Surely buying something else isn’t the only thing someone can do to stop fake, unhealthy blueberries. You can write to manufacturers, call them, draft and circulate petitions, and actively boycott them, including spreading the news about your boycott.
