I’ve been reading Deep Green Resistance: Strategy to Save the Planet by Aric McBay, Lierre Keith, and Derrick Jensen
Derrick Jensen has been called the poet philosopher of the ecological movement. He has written some 15 books critiquing contemporary society and the destruction of the environment. His many books include A Language Older Than Words
“I think a lot of us are increasingly recognizing that the dominant culture is killing the planet,” Jensen says. “I think it’s very important for us to start to build a culture of resistance, because what we’re doing isn’t working, clearly.”
“One of the problems with this whole system is that destroying your land base gives you a competitive advantage over other cultures who don’t… if you destroy your land base, if you DON’T CARE ABOUT THE FUTURE, you can turn this into immediate power, and then use this to conquer, which is something you HAVE to do because you’ve destroyed your own land base and as time goes on you have to keep expanding… and that’s not a very good idea on a finite planet.”

98% of the old growth forests are gone. 99% of of the prairies are gone. 80% of the rivers on this planet do not support life anymore. We are out of species, we are out soil, and we are out of time. And what we are being told by most of the environmental movement is that the way to stop all of this is through personal consumer choices. It’s time for a real strategy that truly addresses the scope of our predicament.
Where is your threshold for resistance? To take only one variable out of hundreds: Ninety percent of the large fish in the oceans are already gone. Is it 91 percent? 92? 93? 94? Would you wait till they had killed off 95 percent? 96? 97? 98? 99? How about 100 percent? Would you fight back then?
