Pesticides could be in your body right now if you’ve been eating genetically modified foods.

Canadian scientists found pesticides and genes found in GM foods are able to survive in the digestive tract and move into the bloodstream. It is also possible for pregnant women to pass the genes to their unborn children.

The study took blood samples from 30 nonpregnant women and 39 pregnant living in Quebec. Residue from the pesticide glyophosate (sold as Roundup) was found in 5 percent of non-pregnant women and no pregnant women.

The pesticide gluphosinate ammonium (sold as Liberty) was found in 18 percent of non-pregnant women and none of the pregnant women.

However a breakdown product of the chemical was found in 100 percent of the pregnant women’s blood and fetal blood samples and 67 percent of the non-pregnant women’s blood.

The Bt toxin Cry1ab was found in 90 percent of the pregnant women’s blood, 80 percent of the fetal blood samples and 69 percent of the non-pregnant women’s blood.

The complications from these chemicals are: abortion, prematurity, intrauterine growth restriction, and preeclampsia, or reproductive disorders.

The use of these and other pesticides have increased by 200 percent in GM foods. The fact that the residue is being passed down from mother to child may explain the rise in chronic diseases in the past decade.

If you needed more incentive to switch to an all-organic diet, the proof is in the pesticide.
