Today is Record Store Day. It’s celebrated worldwide and this year the Beastie Boys have made their 7” single for “Make Some Noise/Make Some Noise (Passion Pit remix)” available in the US with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross Japan Relief fund. They’re already all sold out but you can still celebrate. In terms of going green supporting local record stores counts as buying local, as opposed to buying music in a physical format and having it shipped to you.
To celebrate legendary record store Fat Beats is having a pop up shop today to support the culture. From noon to 11pm on Record Store Day (Saturday, April 16) the landmark record label and retailer will transform their DUMBO warehouse into a hip-hop Woodstock complete with performances by Amir, Eternia, Masta Ace and more.
The event commemorates the one-year anniversary of Guru’s passing with a Gang Starr tribute.
Not only will Fat Beats’ legendary vinyl library be on sale, but everyone in attendance will receive a 10% coupon for the relaunched FatBeats.com , a chance to win a free one-year subscription to Wax Poetics, and a chance to win a free 500-unit printing of vinyl jackets from Dorado. Small Batch Brooklyn will be serving custom sandwich creations and brewing small-batch coffee, so bring your record bag, invite your friends, and come hungry for a good time this Saturday at Fat Beats Brooklyn.
