“After reading about the debacle involving employees of your fried-chicken restaurant in Clinton, Iowa, whose paychecks bounced, we’re writing to encourage you to bounce one more thing — cruelty — and make your restaurant vegetarian.”
Flavor Flav is coming under fire from PETA for having a chicken restaurant. Media coordinator for PETA, Shakira Croce, says the organization is taking the “opportunity” of Flav being in the news for complaints from 4 former employees about unpaid wages to inform the reality show star there are alternatives to chicken, such as “Delicious faux chicken”, a plant-based food with a meaty texture.
“Chickens are arguably the most abused animal on the planet. In the United States, more than 8 billion chickens are killed for their flesh each year, and 90% of these animals spend their lives in total filth and confinement-from the moment they hatch until the day they are killed.” -Michelle Cho, PETA
Flav and his business partner say the dispute has been settled. Seems like if there’s a hint of controversy anywhere involving animals PETA jumps on it and becomes the story. I’ve been meaning to write about Flav’s foray into the restaurant world for a while, especially since I’ve covered Jay Z’s opening an organic chicken restaurant and even Kanye’s burger empire. In January of 2011, the founding member of rap group Public Enemy, opened Flavor Flavs Chicken in Clinton, Iowa. Flav is now also looking to bring his chicken franchise to the Riviera Casino in Las Vegas.
