It may seem so hard at times but people change their diets, and by extension their lives, everyday. My twitter buddy Dalia Kinsey also known as Eating Beautiful describes herself as “Hello Kitty Obsessed,Veggie Freak, Totally Awesome Wife, Cat Lover, Womanist, Student of Dietetics/Nutrition”. I knew she knew a thing or two about nutrition so when I heard she changed her diet and got all refined sugars from out of her life I had to ask how she did it.
How did you change your diet?
Initially I tried making small changes like reducing my potato chip intake from a full bag, down to just a few servings. After a while I realized I needed to eliminate processed food from my diet altogether in order to eat well. Now I eat a plant based diet with an emphasis on leafy, green vegetables.
Why did you change your diet?
Growing up I was never allowed a lot of fried food. When I moved in with my husband and started enjoying treats from the fryer on a daily basis I really started tipping the scale. After being asked for about the billionth time when I was due, I decided it might be time to reevaluate my diet.

I knew that I wasn’t interested in a temporary change so dieting in the traditional sense was out of the question. When I thought back to the times when my weight was stable and easy to maintain I realized that what I needed to do was reintroduce simple foods to my diet.
What was your diet like before you changed it?
Before I changed my diet I was snacking on high salt/high fat treats all day.
What have been the benefits of your new diet?
I feel a lot of more energized now. Previously when I tried to drag myself to the gym I felt really sluggish.
The toughest part of maintaining this diet is accepting that its okay to be different.

The toughest part of maintaining this diet is accepting that its okay to be different. When everyone else has piled up chicken wings and fries on their plate – its okay to be the only person with a salad. Also, its been tough accepting that food isn’t essential to celebrating an occasion or socializing.

Where did you get support to make this change?
There is so much support on the internet but I have found that for me external support doesn’t do much. I only started stabilizing when I stopped seeking external support.
