It snowed again here in New York City and though there hasn’t been much snowfall over this season our post-Christmas blizzard has us all a bit snow fatigued. Since we have an abundance of this fluffy white stuff we can consider using it for more than just getting us a day off.
It never occurred to me to reuse snow. Collecting and reusing rain makes more sense but snow is still water. Here’s a few reuses for snow from 1800recycling.com
-Collect snow in rinsed-out milk jugs and use the water for houseplants. “Snow has been considered the “poor man’s fertilizer,” so in its warmer liquid form, it can help your ornamentals and vegetable plants grow in the spring and summer.”
-Use the snow, melted down to room temperature to rinse out your recyclables.
-Pre-rinse your car with it before washing.
-Rinse down your patio furniture.
-Flush your toilet with it.
-Rinse off your sandy flip flops with it in the summer or your muddy, sometimes salty boots with it in the winter.
Which one of these tips would you use? Do you reuse rainwater or snow already?
