Yesterday I caught this tweet from DJ HouseShoes about Beverly “Pop Dukes” Dewitt Yancy, the father of late producer J Dilla.
J Dilla, born James D. Yancey, worked with the likes of Common, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest and many others. His album Donuts was released in 2006, which many regard as his signature work. The talented and influential Detroit based producer died in 2006 of complications related to lupus, an inflammatory disease that can affect a person’s blood, skin, joints and kidneys.
Dilla made such a contribution to Hip Hop that in his absence if you enjoyed his music or would want someone to do it for your parents you should consider contributing to Mr. Yancy’s medical fund.
“Mr. Yancey was probably the single most influential person in Dilla’s musical development.” ~ vladastojanovic.com
Dilla’s father has been in the hospital for the last few months. Pneumonia/ Heart Attack/Multiple Strokes. No insurance. Show your support by sending donations thru paypal to firstname.lastname@example.org This is serious business yall. RETWEET PLEASE. ~DJ HouseShoes
