We want every ingredient to be a simple ingredient, to be one you can pronounce and one your grandmother would recognize in her pantry,” said Chief Marketing Officer Ken Calwell
In an effort to get fast food to seem less like fast food or processed food, popular chains are looking to rehabilitate their images with healthier options. Fast food burger chain Wendy’s is introducing “natural cut fries” that will have the skin still on and sea salt.
The new fries will be crispier cause they will be slimmer, they will have more salt and be made with frozen Russett potatoes fried in a different blend of vegetable oils.
Wendy’s CMO Ken Calwell said testing showed people saw french fries as processed foods. Calwell said Wendy’s wants to remind people fries come from potatoes. That’s how disconnected we are folks, we forget fries come from potatoes.
Fries are processed though and in the case of McDonalds even has high fructose corn syrup in it, to give it that nice golden color when it’s fried. Wendy’s says it’s old recipe for fries was always 100% potato, so maybe that’s what they were referring to.
The sea salt is great and all but let’s keep in mind fries are still fried and healthier options are out there. I thought they’d go the extra mile and bake their fires but no, maybe that’s going against the grain too much. You can always try that at home though.
Will you be trying these new fries from Wendy’s?
