Not to imply stores get robbed a lot in Brooklyn, but if they do here’s one that doesn’t.

This store has organizers, not owners because it’s ownerless. It’s also customerless. It has no official store hours and its doors are not only never closed, they’re never locked.

The trick is everything’s free.

According to a recent nytimes.com article the store is an alternative to is a big middle finger to “mainstream capitalism” while apparently also giving a middle finger to the word “store”.

The intention of this “store” is to “demonstrate the feasibility of recycling”.

So it’s dumpster diving at a set location on a large scale and yes it’s true, New York City has what’s probably the best dumpster diving anywhere.

Folks have dropped off not just clothes to trade, as pictured above but “a digital camera, an electric stove and a TiVo with a recording capacity of 40 hours.” Nice.
