Here at SFSG we believe giving is green, but it’s important to know where you’re money is going. False charities give the real ones such a bad name and deters folks from donating to organizations that really help those in need. It’s not enough to never give your money to a charity again and giving blindly may only help you and the corrupt feel good in the end. The answer is to be as informed as possible when giving.

Here we have a Frontline investigation on a charity they covered that felt like such a good idea but didn’t live up to its promise.

FRONTLINE/World investigates one of its own stories, “The Play Pump,” which promised to use a merry-go-round and the power of children to help meet the dire need for fresh water in southern Africa.

After the story aired in 2005, major donors, including the U.S. government, launched a multimillion-dollar campaign to install the device in thousands of African schools and villages.

Now, correspondent Amy Costello investigates what happened to those communities, as the promise of the PlayPump fell short.
