Come Back Home’ is in the vein of Common’s ‘I Used To Love H.E.R.’, and perhaps skewed a bit to my perspective.

It speaks of the want for a more sincere meaningful hip-hop, but attests the willingness to accept what it’s become and move forward.” ~Dres of Black Sheep

19 years after they released the classic “The Choice is Yours” Black Sheep is back with a new album called From The Black Pool Of Genius. Can you believe it’s been that long? Was I not supposed to mention that so young people can be interested in them? If young folks don’t care about Black Sheep from ’91 I think it’s their loss cause “The Choice is Yours” and more are still dope.

True to the quote above the new single “Come Back Home” personifies Hip Hop as a woman and traces her history over the years much like Common’s “I Used To Love H.E.R.”. Which I also discussed in Quote: Jay Smooth On The Death Of Hip Hop

I’m not crazy about rap songs by dudes that personify Hip Hop as a woman then proceeded to name all the ways you are disenchanted with her and pretty much hate her.

It’s still a light, breezy track with a catchy hook courtesy of R&B duo P&V. Dres’ sentiments are shared by many who used to love Hip Hop music and I think it’s important to note rap and Hip Hop aren’t the same thing. Since “Come Back Home” is more nostalgic and accepting of a disappointment than hateful the easiness of the song isn’t betrayed. He’s not lying either, he just does his own thing “autotuning her out”.
