The fact that a single accident at a single offshore oil well can cause billions of dollars in damage, result in thousands of people losing their jobs and livelihoods and threaten an entire region highlights how important it is that we keep moving America forward, towards energy independence.

We can’t afford to go back.

Lisa P. Jackson, the head administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency recently did a piece for the Huffington Post where she expressed her concerns about renewable energy, BP’s oil spill in the Gulf and upcoming legislation that will erode the powers the EPA has to regulate.

Senator Murkowski also led the charge against raising the liabilities cap for companies that are responsible for oil spills while our country experiences ecocide in the Gulf.

The Murkowski Resolution comes to a vote on June 10th. Jackson added, “As a result, the resolution would increase our dependence on oil by 455 million barrels.”
