I admit when I first heard about the Nas and Damian Marley project I thought it made sense. With songs like “Welcome to Jamrock” and “The Mission” Damian “Junior Gong” Marley has surely made his father, Bob “Tuff Gong” Marley proud. He’s been making the powerful statements in his music lately and that’s what the people were thirsty for.
While Nas, on the other hand, has been making songs like “Hip Hop Is Dead”, even though he wanted to make “Welcome to Jamrock” too.
So I get it. With all the talk about it on the blogs for so long the recently released album Distant Relatives became like a purple unicorn for me. Something I never thought I’d see. Now the project is already muscling the Glee kids and the Black Keys’ album Brothers for top slot on the Billboard charts. One of my favs Janelle Monae debuted with The Archandroid at 16. Not bad.
Glad to see the leak was ignored by someone! And if you’re interested you can cop the album here Distant Relatives
