An Interview With Haitian Singer Alan Cave’s Charity We Care-Haiti Pt2
on March 19th, 2010 at 2:39 pmTransparency is an important issue for an organization that asks for your money. If you missed the first part of the interview you can check it out HERE.
In this part of my interview with Myrtho Cave, the president of We Care-Haiti sponsored by ACMEF and the wife of Alan Cave, the lead singer of the Haitian band ZIN (one of the most popular Haitian Konpa music bands) we discussed where its own donation money goes.
“The Officers associated with We Care – Haiti have aligned the organization with Food for the Poor and Project Medishare. Everything we receive goes directly to these organizations and is evenly distributed.”
“Those those organizations were chosen by the board members of We Care-Haiti because they were well-established in Haiti prior to the earthquake, they had a lay of the land and they would give our donations directly to victims of the earthquake,” Cave said.
Project Medishare for Haiti, Inc. was founded by Dr. Barth Green and Dr. Arthur Fournier in 1994 to improve the health conditions of the people in Haiti by providing healthcare and development services there. According to Cave “they had a team of trauma doctors at the airport in Port-au-Prince within hours of the earthquake.”
We Care-Haiti’s board members got medical professionals to volunteer with Project Medishare just days after the earthquake. The legitimacy of their partners was confirmed for the board when their volunteers gave vivid first hand accounts of the conditions on the ground and detailed some impressive relief efforts since their arrival.
Food for the Poor also had direct contact with a member on We Care-Haiti’s board in Haiti. “We knew they were strong and have always helped the people who needed assistance,” Cave said.
Although We Care-Haiti is Long Island, NY based they also have an International Director on the ground in Haiti. That’s certainly an asset for the Caves’ organization, but there is still competition in the non profit sector for your well earned, meaning dollars.
As president of We Care-Haiti Cave believes people should to donate to whatever charity they are comfortable with. “The name We Care-Haiti speaks for its self. We Care for Haiti and we just want to help anyway we can.”
“Truthfully, as long as organizations are helping the survivors of Haiti, We Care-Haiti members will be HAPPY. The fact that many people are still helping in different ways today is moving. One or two people can do so much.”
Donations can be given on their website wecare-haitisponsoredbyacmef.org. All donations are safe through the website. If you prefer a list of needed supplies and drop off points for those who want to help are also listed.
Myrtho’s Cave’s celebrity husband, singer Alan Cave, has also promised to “devote his time, energy and speak on the behalf of our ventures” she said. “He will perform to raise money for We Care-Haiti.”
As far as ZIN is concerned rumors of a breakup Mrs. Cave said, “Alan has never said he has left the band nor has he and the band discussed him leaving. There is a second singer who performs with the band whether or not Alan is available, but that is as far as it goes.”
So The Caves and We Care-Haiti intend to remain committed to the future in Haiti. “We have positive, strong and determined people on our board who really care about the country.”
Myrtho Cave is clear-sighted about the future of her family’s country of origin. “Haiti went from a struggling country to a distraught motherland. I would love to blink and see Haiti as the paradise of the Caribbean. Haiti not only needs to be rebuilt, it needs structure, organization and positive hope of a real future.”
Thanks so much for your participation Myrtho!
