Sure it looks like that naked guy is about to jump off the top of that building in Manhattan but no worries. He’s not some crazy New Yorker with tons of issues (shout out to DMX, nobody lights up TMZ like him). Instead, this guy is art.

Confusing and alarming I know, but this is part of the Madison Square Park “Event Horizon” installation. The NYPD is trying to get the word out about it so people will stop calling 911 trying to prevent a jumper. Who says New Yorkers don’t care?

English sculptor Antony Gormley’s 31 life-sized iron cast and fiberglass figures were installed on top of 204 Fifth Avenue, the home of Pentagram Design’s New York offices on March 9th and will on display March 26 through August 15, 2010.

This public art exhibition will inhabit the pathways and sidewalks of historic Madison Square Park as well as the rooftops of the many architectural treasures in New York’s Flatiron District.

When it comes to enjoying parks in New York is seems like we’re going to have to get creative now anyway.

What was the point of this? To emphasize our NYC’s human scale. The thing about New Yorkers is we rarely look up anyway, that’s for tourists.

What I love about this pic is the fact that none of these New Yorkers has come to a complete stop to look at this thing. We know how to keep it moving.
