Recently Guru, half of the legendary Hip Hop group Gang Starr, suffered a heart attack and was in a coma due to “controlled medications” according to hiphopdx.com.
Not only was there sorrow and warm wishes in the Hip Hop community there were a lot of questions regarding the emcee’s status, whether his family was being allowed to see him or even know about Guru’s illness.

This mix was done on March 7th on WBAI’s Underground Railroad with Jay Smooth, the longest running Hip-Hop radio show.

Gang Starr split years ago and Guru’s former partner, super producer DJ Premier, made a statement on his blog djpremierblog.blogspot.com which is featured in this mix along. Also featured: a discussion about the statement Guru’s nephew Justin Nicholas-Elam Ruff made on youtube about “the real true story” behind his uncle’s condition.
Apparently power of attorney has been given to Guru’s new music partner, Solar, a reportedly unsavory character and negative influence on the legendary rapper. This gives Solar control over the information flow and the power to make some very critical decisions on Guru’s behalf when he can’t do it himself.
Solar responded to there’s accusations by saying:
“Guru’s well being and need to heal is what I am concerned with,and that Guru’s wishes in this matter be observed.” ~hiphopdx.com
