My governor is going through a lot right now. Governor Paterson has been in the news every night lately and there are plenty who want him out of office even though the majority of the people would like him to finish his term. As a New York City resident and former NY State Parks employee it’s distressing to know that the scandal ridden governor still has tough choices to make like reducing funding for parks to balance the budget.
It seems the part of the park I worked at will be closing along long with other whole parks and historic sites on April 1st. This doesn’t seem to be a joke though.
I Haven’t put up a song in a while. This was is a no brainer for a post like this. Camp Lo is also one of my favs.
Of course this isn’t happening without protest from park advocates. The presence of parks in New York City alone helps to combat issues in Black, Latino and poor communities like diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity. They are vital to the communities everywhere. Camp Lo knows that. Even The Muppets knew that in their movie The Muppets Take Manhattan (which I recommend). What is the city without a park to take a break from all that concrete in?
According to 1010wins.com:
The state parks office has said it will close 41 of 178 parks and reduce services at 23 others and shut down 14 of 35 historic sites because of New York’s budget crisis.”
