Yes, you read that correctly, paper made from sheep poo. Sheep Poo Paperâ„¢ is literally made from sheep poo because Creative Paper Wales doesn’t want to use trees. They like trees.

The company’s website says: “We take great care to collect super-fresh sheep poo from the beautiful (and rainy) mountains of rural Wales and take it back to the mill, situated in southern Snowdonia.”

Black Sheep- “Try Counting Sheep”

Now you can count sheep when you need to sleep and if you’re thinking of getting paper. 1 sheep, 2 sheep, 3 sheep, Black Sheep.

They were even kind enough to explain how this paper is made on their website. The sheep poo is sterilized first in a specially designed pressure cooker then washed repeatedly for days. The result is cellulose fiber and as a by-product “produces a clean, sterile, rich, liquid fertilizer which we store in a tank at the mill and pass on to local growers.”

“It takes many hours to beat the cellulose fiber and blend it with other recycled pulps until it reduces to a pulp suitable for making paper.”

The process from there is traditional papermaking. The paper comes out “stunningly smooth finish, although you can still see the flecks in the paper that come from the sheep poo.”

They were even kind enough to offer instructions on how you can make paper yourself here

Creative Paper Wales is the only craft paper mill in Wales and they do make paper out of other things besides poo. Stay tuned for reindeer poo paper this Christmas. No seriously!
